As a complementary therapy, Meditation is a mind-body process which uses concentration or reflection to relax the body and calm the mind. In a sympathetic environment, surrounded in candlelight, you will learn to focus on a particular aspect of your inner or outer experience.

Mindfulness Meditation

If you wish, I will explore mindfulness meditation, in which we will observe sensations, perceptions, and thoughts without judgment as they arise.


Or perhaps you would prefer to explore the therapeutic benefits of visualisation or guided imagery. Imagery involves mental exercises designed to allow the mind to influence the health and well being of the body through imaginative evocation of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, or other sensations.

All these meditation techniques can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression; manage and relieve pain; lower blood pressure; alter brainwaves and create feelings of being in control. Further benefits can be an increase in motivation and enhancement of your immune system.

In the last 20 years, meditation has been studied in clinical trials as a way of reducing stress on both the mind and body. Research shows that meditation can help reduce anxiety, stress, blood pressure, chronic pain, and insomnia. Studies of mindfulness meditation found that it seemed to help with symptoms of anxiety. One controlled study with a group of healthy workers found more brain activity in an area linked to positive emotional states in those who meditated. The same study found that those who meditated had a better immune response to the influenza vaccine than those who did not meditate.

Breathwork and Spiritual Healing

Breathwork describes a variety of conscious breathing techniques used in many relaxation exercises and spiritual healing methods. Focused, deep breathing exercises, such as exaggerating the way you naturally inhale and exhale promotes relaxation, awareness, and emotional release. Shallow breathing is a way to avoid feeling one's emotions and is an indicator of stress, so I will teach you to take long, deep healing breaths. These breaths are cleansing in that they free the body and mind from blockages and release toxins that work against a healthy state.

If you wish to try breathwork you will be lying down comfortably. Relaxation music and candlelight will both be used to help create a relaxed environment. Effects may include sleepiness; tingling in the hands, feet, or face; and a sense of altered consciousness.

Crystal Healing Therapy

Crystals such as quartz, malachite, amethyst, and other gemstones are used for the purposes of healing physical and emotional conditions. Crystals can be used as a method to promote relaxation and relieve stress by focusing or otherwise transforming energy to stimulate healing. Specific crystals treat a wide variety of physical and emotional conditions including headaches, indigestion, insomnia,, rheumatism, thrombosis, forgetfulness, anxiety, depression, Parkinson's disease, blindness, and cancer. Certain gemstones or crystals carry special energy that can be transferred to people to provide protection against disease, restore health, and provide spiritual guidance.

Moonpaths does not claim that stones or crystals can cure illness directly. We assert that certain stones and crystals emit vibrations that can correct underlying problems. Illness occurs when an individual is misaligned with the divine energy (or light) believed to be the foundation of all creation. The application of stones or crystals within specific energy centres (chakras - see chakra balancing) draws light and colour into the body's aura. This creates a flow of energy that promotes healing by clearing, balancing, and re-energizing the body's energy fields.

I will intuitively determine where "blockages" of energy in your body's aura (bio-magnetic energy field) are located and then place particular stones or crystals on specific parts of your body. Different types and colours of stones or crystals are promoted to have different energy healing powers. For example, amethysts are thought to calm the mind and uplift the spirit, sapphires are thought to help hearing and mental clarity, and rubies are thought to cleanse the blood and foster courage. Each one is chosen based on the individual's needs and energy fields. Crystal healing will take place in a comfortable environment with music, incense and candles used as aids for relaxation.

Psychotherapy at Moonpaths


Psychotherapy covers a wide range of approaches designed to help people change their ways of thinking, feeling, or behaving. Research has shown that psychotherapy may improve a person's quality of life by reducing anxiety and depression and stress. I practice traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is directed at changing thoughts and behaviors by addressing the repeated, negative thoughts that affect behavior. I help clients learn to identify harmful internal messages and create positive self-talk (internal dialogue/thoughts). This kind of therapy may include homework assignments such as disputing disturbing thoughts, trying different responses to criticism, or making a list of things he or she likes about himself or herself. I encourage you to start a journal in which you can track your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and thereby map your journey towards wholeness and healing.

Couples Therapy

I also practice Couples Therapy (also see: relationship counselling) at Moonpaths, specialising in working with couples to identify destructive patterns of behavior in order to break out of negative cycles.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy at Moonpaths focuses on relationship patterns and all family members may be involved in therapy sessions. Through constructive, challenging facilitation, I will help your family communicate their feelings more effectively. Although usually short-term, this therapy can last longer depending on the needs of the family.

Divorce and Separation

I also have extensive experience in bereavement counselling and assisting parents who wish to guide their children through the painful experience of separation and divorce. I brought up my children single-handedly for 10 years after a complicated and fraught divorce and have professional as well as personal insight into the processes which accompany a child's experience.

Holistic Medicine at Moonpaths

Holistic medicine focuses on how the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual elements of the body are interconnected to maintain wellness (holistic health). When one part of the body or mind is not working properly the whole person is affected. Holistic approaches focus on the whole person rather than just on the illness or part of the body that is not healthy.

Available scientific evidence supports claims that holistic medicine, when used with mainstream or conventional medicine is effective in treating disease. Holistic methods are becoming more common in mainstream care, and may be used as complementary therapy or preventive care. In mainstream medicine, a holistic approach generally means a more inclusive approach to a person's health, one that includes your social and cultural situation. This term is used by doctors to reflect a new focus on a person's health (to include prevention, rehabilitation, and other approaches) rather than on illness alone. This means that a person's health includes the mind, body, and spirit, as well as the surrounding culture and environment. This can include your family situation, your home (also see: smudging and spiritual house cleansing), work situation, relationships and more, since these all impact on your health.

Moonpaths approaches health and disease from several angles and suggests that a person should not only treat the illness but his or her whole self to reach a higher level of wellness. Combining these different methods can help you take control of your situation and attain a feeling of total wellness: spiritually, physically, and mentally.
